Literature Text

If you stand out in a field long enough,
faeries will come to play,
you know,

She said to me, with her eyes aglow,
glimmering like snowglobes, and
there were hopes stitched into the hem of her dress.

She always smiled.
If not with peony lips, then with
emerald eyes reflecting forest canopies,
green eyes glittering and always
tittering away about faeries.

She spent her days all alone, bare feet
weaving through sawgrass, and catching
red dragonflies by the creek.
With her feet, she spent tracing the stars' path onto
a field of sunflowers,
or daisies,
or petunias or something like that.

One day I followed her and she notised,
she always notised everything,
but she wouldn't say a word
or look my way
or anything,
lest she scare off this mantis praying upon her palms.

And she would let her hours slip away
standing in a golden field,
grass and dress brushing against her calves,
face turned towards the birds
no doubt waiting for faeries.

I approached her one day, while
she was standing in a field, still smiling.
She didn't move
or look my way
or anything,
just smiling with emerald eyes reflecting absent canopies.

...Have the faeries ever come?

No,

was an abrupt reply. But she smiled.

But I don't care 'cause look at these beautiful flowers
and these birds
and the trees
and just look at this sky, why don't you.

...Are you really waiting for faeries?

Nah,

and she laughed and she looked at me,
warmly,
like she just found a friend.

I'm waiting for the angels.
Angels will come down to dance someday.
We'll sing together.

And we stood there for a long time,
staring at the sky together.
It did look like angels could descend on our field
at any given heartbeat,
if we didn't fall into the sky, first.

...Y'know, we don't have to wait for them to dance.

She looked at me, surprised.
And with a great smile, her eyes
like daylight skies,
lit up the whole world.

With eyes all aglow, we danced
in that field 'till the dust kicked up dreams,
and she sang,
we laughed,
We danced in golden fields until golden halos shone in our hair,

We could feel that the angels smiled down at us.
Okey it's really late and I haven't proofread this yet, so I'll stitch it up later 'cause I'm tired now. Enjoy, and let me know what you think.
